A Note From Tender Loving Care Home For The Elderly

March 4, 2019 By admin Leave a Comment

Tender Loving Care Home For The Elderly is a senior citizen care home with 12 resident patients and some daytime patients, set just off the road leading to Da’Vida. After Irma, the facility was substantially damaged – to the point that the building was not habitable and the patients had to be moved.

Nurse Brenda Hodge (the owner) moved the patients to her parents’ home as a temporary measure. The patients are still there over a year later, with limited living quarters and only 1 bathroom.

Sunset Homes and its generous corporate partners and other individuals and companies continue to invest in a major rehaul and renovation process. The progress on the project is heartwarming and we are nearing completion. Help us complete our home by coming on board to contribute to lighting, windows, doors, poured concrete, bathroom fixtures, ceiling fans, kitchen appliances and labour.

Donations can be made via the link above or via phone or in person. All donations made will be put towards accounts for Tender Loving Care – Nurse Brenda would then be able to purchase building supplies to complete the rebuild.

The First Annual South Hill Christmas Experience

December 18, 2013 By Dad Leave a Comment

Don’t you love “1st year traditions”? Be there for one when South Hill starts its very first “Christmas Experience.”

If you’re on-island, get a taste of “The Real Anguilla” on December 19. Starting at 10AM, it runs the entire day.

You can’t miss it if you’re in the area. Simply head to the field across from Greig’s Trucking, near LaVue Boutique Inn.

True old-time Anguillian cuisine will be prepared in a genuine, old-fashioned oven. Built especially for the Experience, it’s sure to be the star of many Christmas’s to come in South Hill.

An original way to spend an hour or two (or 8), join in the fun with the South Hill community. There will be entertainment, bread baked in the rock even and even bouncing castle for the kids. Bring gifts if you like and delight the kids.

Merry Christmas from South Hill!

Market Square: An Idea That Deserves to Happen

December 16, 2013 By Dad Leave a Comment

An idea to convert the area in The Valley that includes Peoples Market, empty ground to its east, and going west to West of Ken’s Barbecue has been floated by The Ministry of Home Affairs.

There will be a public consultation on December 18th, 2013, from 7PM-9PM, at the Wallblake Conference Centre (that’s right near St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church).

The concept is to create a vibrant Anguillian marketplace, full of Anguillian vendors selling everything from delightful Anguillian food from Food Vans, arts and craft, clothing, locally grown fruits and vegetables, as well as stalls selling fresh-caught fish and local meat products.

Heavily used by residents with “things to to,” The Valley, Anguilla’s capital, has for too long been something that tourists drive through to get from “East” to “West,” but where there is little to stop them.

Right now, a few tourists may stop to visit People’s Market, and those in the know may pick up ribs at Ken’s on a Friday night, but the rest of the area is so empty that most hardly notice as they drive through The Valley to somewhere else.

Filling in the gaps and growing the area into a bustling Caribbean market that is distinctly Anguillian would deliver an irresistibly attractive discovery that would rapidly become an intentional destination.

It’s a WIN for tourists AND for local vendors who currently have trouble accessing the tourist directly.

Having a bustling Market Square in the center of The Valley is not only a strong idea in its own right, but perhaps a stepping stone to more ideas that turn the capital into a “place to see.”

If you are on-island on the 18th, why not drop by and let your point of view be known?

October 11, 2011 By Yuki Leave a Comment

Please be on the lookout for “Molly” a shy, small short haired cream colored female dog who went missing late Sunday afternoon from her yard behind Triple K car rental by airport.

She is not wearing a collar and was previously living near the golf course so may be trying to return to that area.

If seen or found please contact 235-8492 or 461-4603

Thank You!
