Maria Going, Going, Gone

September 10, 2011 By Yuki Leave a Comment

Tropical Storm Maria is breaking up and looks like it will deliver nothing more than thunderstorm-level rain and wind.

Reports from Anguilla indicate not much impact from Maria and the most recent official reports corroborate

Meanwhile, Katia seems headed on a course back across the Atlantic… towards Scotland!

It would be strange indeed to see the NorthEast US and Scotland both take a beating from storms that missed Anguilla (Irene and Katia, respectively).

Anguilla is 3.5 months into the 6 month hurricane season. Another 2 weeks, and we’ll be post-peak season. By the end of October, we can breather somewhat easier (although still not done).

Fingers crossed!

Tropical Storm Katia Update

August 30, 2011 By Yuki Leave a Comment

From our local weather expert over at http://www.anguilla-weather.com/…

TS Katia (probably hurricane Katia by Wed.) is currently tracking to the NW about 2,100miles to our ESE.  ALL forecast models call for Katia to pass well to our north on Sunday/Monday as a Cat 3 hurricane– currently about 300 miles north of AXA.  Also, current reports show that the strongest winds will be to the north of the center – with 50 kt. + winds extending only about 50 miles to the south from the center.  Sea swell forecast call for 10 – 12 ft. seas from the E and NE on Sunday – nothing extraordinary for AXA.  I should point out that Crown Weather (http://www.crownweather.com ) stated in their report this morning that “…I am still leaning towards a track that takes Katia very close to, if not right over the northeastern Caribbean on Sunday and Monday..”, but not sure where they are coming from on this.  No matter, with a possible Cat. 3 hurricane passing close to us, should keep a close eye on the track later in the week.

Atlantic Storms and Anguilla

August 12, 2011 By Yuki Leave a Comment

Just a heads up re: the now 4 Atlantic storms being tracked.

The one of concern to us is Storm 93L which is still over 2,100 miles to our east.

Current thought is the storm in front of 93L (slower moving Storm 92L) could be absorbed into 93L (but no matter – 92L is currently not a threat).

Although too far for any accurate forecast, models call for it to track over the northern islands sometime Tuesday/Wed. without reaching hurricane status.  But it is a large storm and we should expect at least rain and some squalls mid-week.

Keep checking http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/index.shtml every 6 hours for updates.

More this weekend if conditions warrant.  Here’s the latest satellite/model tracks:
