Anguilla is now home for one of the premiere cycling competitions, the John T. Memorial Cycling Race. John Thomas, who the cycle race is held in honour of, was one of the first cyclists in Anguilla.
For the past 12 years, this race has been a one day event. Starting this year, it spreads over two days- July 16th to 17th.
The first day consisted of timed trials, Junior races, and A + category races. Today, more than 35 cyclists will pedal a challenging cross island race. Winners will be announced.
The Anguilla Tourist Board brought back the Valley Street Festival as part of the cycling event. For those of those who did not attend in May, the festival featured the Tourist Board’s rainbow stalls which had a variety of paintings, pottery, handcrafts, fruits, vegetables, fish, clothing, toiletries…
Along with tons of shopping and eating (expect lots of BBQ- fish, chicken, ribs, johnny cakes, etc…)- there was live music, mocko-jumbies, and the lovely Samantha brought the laughs. If you weren’t having enough fun as it was, there was also face-painting, cotton candy, balloons, and bouncing castles… for the children, that is.
The Valley Street Festival is expected to become a monthly event.
Stay tuned for regular updates on the Valley Street Festival.
