Sile Bay is another one of Anguilla's apparently endless supply of remote and wonderful beaches. . . .

The two pictures above were sent to me recently by Mala Wigley; I took the pictures below in 1998 (click any of the pictures to see a larger view). Mala also mentions that Sile bay is one of the best locations for seeing Whales as they pass by close to shore in February and March; this is their normal route. Mala should know, as she has a villa at Sile Bay called Whale View which is for sale.

Frank & Dave from Savannah Gallery have a one bedroom Villa with pool overlooking Sile Bay and neighboring Savannah Bay called Windsong Villa. It looks like a great place to stay for a tranquil vacation. This is an unspoiled and undevelaoped area of Anguilla with great views to the south toward St Martin and St Barts.

The first beach at Sile Bay had lots of shells along the shore the last time I was there. I went in the water there, but I suggest you be careful not to fall on the slippery rocks as you enter.

Jibralta, a visitor who explored every beach in Anguilla, writes:

We had a wonderful time on the east side of Sile Bay, also a safe snorkel spot for wimps like me and Bean, and yes the rocks are slippery and do require shoes. There is NO need for a 4WD for Sile, just don't get stuck in the sand.

I first explored Sile Bay because Joellen Samojla was trying to find a beach where she snorkelled years ago (1994) and saw hundreds of star fish. It wasn't Sile Bay, but we think it might have been Rendezvous Bay.

If you walk all the way to the point, you look back across the sandy curve and the rocky curve to the coast line.

Behind the sandy beach and all along the rocky point, there are tidal pools with interesting sea life. This is a good spot for exploring.

Directions: From airport parking lot, take the only exit and turn left on Airport Road. Drive straight past Island Car Rental and the National Bank of Anguilla, and turn right at the traffic light. Follow this road for several miles. At the roundabout, take the right fork over Sandy Hill and continue to the East End pond.

Take the second paved turn off after the East End Clinic in East End Village. The main road curves left around the pond and continues to Island Harbour, but you turn off at the sign for Heritage Collection, a museum worth visiting in its own right. Go up the hill to the museum and turn right just after it on another paved road, then take a left and go down the hill. At the bottom you bear right and switch to dirt through a sandy "bottom", with pond and palm trees to the left, then on to the southern coast, where the road dead ends at Sile Bay. The distance from Heritage Collection to Sile Bay is 0.6 KM.

Essential Office Services: New and Bigger

The Anguilla Annual Race Against AIDS, 1/2 Marathon, 10K and 5K run/walk. Sponsored by the Optimist Club's. Watercolor Workshop

Anguilla Arts Restival Bringing in Guest Instructor Garve Beckham, President of the Watercolor Society of Oregon, to Teach Watercolor Workshop

This year, the Anguilla Arts Festival Committee is bringing Garve Beckham to Anguilla for his third year to teach an on-site watercolor workshop November 29�December 3, 2004. The workshop will be based at Arawak in Island Harbour, with on-location painting for the majority of the class. Garve is a superb and very popular teacher. He works well with students at all levels�beginner to advanced�in the same class. Each student receives a substantial amount of individual attention. Samples of his work and previous workshops can be viewed at the link above.

President of the Watercolor Society of Oregon, Garve taught his first watercolor painting class for Portland Community College in 1972, where he taught continuously for 27 years. Garve has also taught for Clackamas Community College, Tillamook Bay Community College, Oregon Society of Artists, and most of the major art groups in the Portland, Oregon area, such as the Portland Fine Arts Guild, the Buffalo Grass Society, Lake Oswego Society for the Arts Association, Sam Jackson Crafty Arts, Beaverton Arts Commission, and West Linn Arts Association. He remains the most sought-after teacher at the Oregon Society of Artists�where he has taught for 20 years�and the Portland Fine Arts League, consistently attracting the largest classes. Garve has also taught many summer workshops both in the U.S, and abroad. In his workshops, he explores the basics of good painting as well as the more elusive elements of passion, mood and feeling. Garve teaches by example with daily morning demonstrations and discussions explaining his philosophies and techniques, followed by on-site painting where Garve assists each student individually. At the end of the day, a critique session is conducted in which each student's work is evaluated and given positive suggestions for improvement.

The cost is $200.00 for the week, with full-day instruction from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. which will include professional critique of each student's previous-day's work, a detailed demonstration by Garve, and student painting in the afternoon. This year, Garve will also be judging the Anguilla Arts Festival art show.

My name is Nancy Michaels and I live in Montgomery NY, I have been going to Anguilla since 1988 and stay at Rendezvous Bay Hotel and I have fallen in love with the people and the place. I most always go in March so when I read your story I decided to do what I could.
My son, Bob Michaels is Vice President of the Middletown Little League, a neighboring town to me. This was perfect. He said they had a lot of equipment laying around that had been replaced by new. When I went last March I met with George Carty and Calvin Hughes and found out what they needed etc. They seem very dedicated and are so nice.
So finally on July 9 I shipped 7 boxes of bats, uniforms, shoes, catchers equipment, helmets, and gloves, the gloves I collected from different people, LL doesn't provide them to the kids, one man I buy antiques from brought me about 10 gloves and wouldn't take any money for them. The shipping was about $400 and the Middletown Little League paid for all of that. We also sent a LL rules book to help them. As more equipment becomes available we will continue to supply what we can. I thought this was a good thing for the kids here as well as the kids in Anguilla.
Wouldn't it be great if one day they could play ball together?
