We were back for the seventh year to enjoy beautiful Junks Hole Bay this past winter. While relaxing, we did our usual dialing around. Anguilla has a group of exciting new stations on the air! The Anguillian stations have a decidedly Caribbean flavor. The frequencies are tuned to British standards. Nearby St. Martin stations have a more eclectic sound, and broadcast under the guidelines of both France and The Netherlands. Be prepared. If you want the most variety, bring a good digital tuning international radio such as the Grundig Yacht Boy. When all else fails, you can tune in the BBC or Voice of America.
Here's a short reference table, with stations arranged in order of distance from Anguilla. The listing is limited to reasonably strong, signals reaching Anguilla and nearby waters. For more comprehensive listings and information about radio stations in the Northeast Caribbean, go to www.comm-systems.net/medialist.html, www.tvradioworld.com/region1/, and www.comfm.com/live/radio/?k=8 . Since change is inevitable, some of the information on this and those sites may already be outdated, but we do our best. Some of the stations in the region are now audio streaming. Follow the links below to listen where possible.

First Results from Commonwealth Games.Sam Scott ([email protected]) a reporter in the UK sends this report from the Manchester games:
Anguillian hopeful Desiree Cocks had a low key start to her Commonwealth Games by finishing seventh and last in her women's 100m heat in Manchester yesterday (Friday). Cocks, a proud representative for her nation, was left trailing by Bahamas star Debbie Ferguson and recorded a 12.88sec finishing time to go out of the event at the first stage.
But the seasoned Commonwealth competitor will have enjoyed the occasion with over 30,000 spectators cheering on the morning sessions in unseasonably high heat in the City of Manchester Stadium. Cocks, in her second Commonwelath Games, has the chance to make amends in the women's long jump qualification tomorrow, and USA-based island stunner Shyrone Hughes makes her Manchester bow in the first round of the womens 200m.

Anguilla Forum:
Carib On-lineFootball Weekend in Anguilla.
David Lockwood reports: Two highly entertaining football matches were held at the Ronald Webster Park on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July. Organised by the Anguilla Football Association and the current League champions the Roaring Lions the games were played against the champions of St Kitts, Cayon FC.
On the Saturday Cayon FC came from a goal behind to draw with Anguilla Presidents 11 team 1-1. This match serving as a warm up for the Sunday fixture was well attended.
Sundays match in front of a larger more vocal crowd saw a really entertaining game. The match had everything a fan could ask for goal mouth scrambles, 6 goals, a sending off and spirited displays from both squads. Cayon FC led 3-0 at half time against the Lions. The second half saw a very late challenge on a Lions forward who was breaking on goal resulted in a justified instant dismissal for a Cayon player reducing their side to 10 men. Cayon battled back to score a further 2 goals mainly from the play of their inspirational player Yellowman. Following strong pressure from the Roaring Lions a late goal for the Anguilla team brought the final score to 5-1.
Both games proved highly enjoyable for the players and spectators and we wish the Roaring Lions well in their return fixture in St Kitts against Cayon FC later this month.

The Anguilla Football Association League champions the Roaring Lions will be taking on the champions of St Kitts, Cayon FC at the Ronald Webster Park on Sunday 21st July. Entrance to Sundays match costs EC$5.
The Anguilla national team was narrowly defeated 2-1 earlier this month in Tortola against the British Virgin Islands (BVI) national team. They lost to two very late goals in a game they had dominated throughout. Despite the loss many view this to be the teams best performance to date especially as BVI are ranked almost 40 places above Anguilla in the FIFA world rankings. Anguilla squad members are eager to show their talents and bring two wins at home in the matches being played this weekend.
The Roaring Lions are due to travel to St Kitts for a return match with Cayon FC on the weekend of 27th July.

Sonesta SalePress release posted on "AnguillaNews.com": After pulling out of talks with Sandals resort earlier this year, the government of Anguilla announced that the Sonesta's property would be sold to Flag Luxury Properties LLC. On Monday July 1st 2002, an agreement between Flag Luxury and the government was signed for the construction of an 18 hole professional golf course designed by Greg Norman, a small luxury hotel, membership properties and residential estate lots in the area between Sonesta and CusinArt. The project is reported to cost in excess of US $200 million and create much needed employment.

Narrow Defeat for Anguilla Football Team.Vinnie Jones writes: Anguillas national football team narrowly lost against Saint-Martin on Sunday 23rd June. This follows a convincing 6-2 victory in a friendly match against HMS Richmond on 18th June in Anguilla . Despite the 1-0 loss the quality of play on Sunday was another major step forward for the international team. The goal scored just before the end of the match belied a match dominated by Anguilla. The entire squad demonstrated commitment and level of skill far greater than in this years earlier games. Whilst the entire team played well the midfield players of Lester and Gordon Connor put in notable performances helping strongly in defence and building the numerous attacks.
Earlier this month Anguilla lost 2-1 loss against Saint-Martin in a game which Saint-Martin dominated for almost 80 minutes. Last Sundays game was a complete reversal of this, even if the result wasnt in Anguillas favour! The next match a full international is away to Tortola on 7th July and it is understood that a squad of about 16 with new national team coach Scott Cooper will travel out.
