Barnes Bay Beach

The picture above is of the western end of Barnes Bay, and the first picture below is a closeup of the same rock. Next is a long shot of the western end, with Cerulean villa, ArBron Villas, and Les Alize villa on the left.

Next is a photo of an early morning fishing boat, a long shot of the beach in front of Caribella and Mangos Restaurant, and finally the eastern end of the beach, where the Coccoloba resort is located.

Directions: Located on the north side of the island in the West End, the only public access is on the road to Mangos Restaurant and Caribella resort. Starting from the airport parking lot, take the only exit and turn left, then left again, driving past the airport entrance and straight through the roundabout. Continue west down the main island road. When you get to the next roundabout stay to the left (don't go down the hill to Sandy Ground). You will pass turnoffs for CuisinArt and Cap Juluca, and the Foods 95 market. Start looking for a turnoff on the right with signs for Mangos or Caribella (signs come and go in Anguilla unfortunately). This dirt road terminates at the middle of Barnes Bay Beach.

Anguilla Day 2002

[Click to enlarge] Anguilla celebrated 35 years of self-determination on Anguilla Day, May 30, 2002. [Click to enlarge]

On May 30, 1967 Anguilla had a revolution to throw out the St Kitts constabulary to take over the administration of the island.

One of the key revolutionary leaders includes James Ronald Webster (pictured right) whose courage and drive in this initiative earned him a distinguished place in Anguilla's history.

The weekend of Anguilla Day celebrations opened with a parade, formal ceremony and festivities.

Hello Tourism

[Click to enlarge] The Enclave at Cinnamon Reef welcomed the students and teachers from the Island Harbour Primary School Friday evening 6/14-15 for a one night stay as guests of the hotel, part of Anguillas Annual Hello Tourism Program. The program for grade 6 students, designed by the Tourism Board, is an introduction to the Hospitality Industry, promoting an awareness of and an appreciation for the industry.

Mrs. Shorna Fleming, Office Manager of The Enclave kicked off this years program for the resort by attending Island Harbour Primary School to discuss with the students the ways that tourism stimulates our economy and the importance of all our people welcoming tourists to our island with a smile.

The students, together with Teacher Donna and Teacher Lester, were treated as tourists from the moment they checked in. By participating, the students got first hand experience and knowledge of what the island resorts have to offer. Great emphasis was made during Mrs. Flemings discussion at the school on the importance of all being courteous to one another thus, developing a natural asset geared to welcoming and interacting with tourists on our island. She also, made note of the importance of being knowledgeable of our island, so that when visitors approach us, we can be helpful in getting them around.

The entire class and teachers had unlimited use of all hotel facilities and water sports equipment. The bay awakened Saturday morning to the giggling sounds of excitement. Teachers along with students could be seen paddling in circles in the paddleboat, while others paddle themselves against the almost motionless waves in kayaks then took to the pool and Jacuzzi. As typical tourists, their morning swim was followed by breakfast in the full service restaurant Hemmingway. There again, their excitement filled the air. One after the next, they were served in a setting of giggles and chatter, the conversation centered not only on what to eat, but the fun of spending the night as typical tourists. After breakfast, they trailed to the tennis courts in an effort of release stored energy and excitement. Many played tennis while others simply enjoyed watching the friendly matches.

By the hotels involvement in the program Mrs. Fleming noted, it not only gave the students an appreciation for the industry but also an appreciation for the hotel employees, would work hard to provide the quality service each tourist expects. Many of these students know someone in their community who works in a hotel or restaurant, and it is important for them to realize that the tourist profession is both demanding and rewarding.

At the end of their stay, the students presented The Enclave with a sculpture that is now proudly displayed at the resort. Now, the students will return to class and as part of the program will prepare an essay on their entire experience. The opportunity to overnight at a luxurious resort being, one aspect of the program.

Anguilla National Football Team. Vinnie Jones reports that the national soccer team will be playing it's second international match of the year:

As World Cup football fever has gripped Anguilla as it has the rest of the world the national football team are to play their second international match of the season against Saint-Martin on Sunday 23rd June. This follows a convincing victory in a friendly match against HMS Richmond on Tuesday where despite numerous enforced changes the Anguilla team put on a spirited performance winning 6-2. The match was a valuable moral booster following the years earlier 2-1 loss against St Martin. The quality of play by Anguillas team was a marked improvement. The stars for Anguilla in this match were Javille Brooks, with 4 goals, with Leon Jeffers putting in a committed and strong defensive performance.

It is understood that a squad of about 20 with new national team coach Scott Cooper, travel early Sunday afternoon for the 4.00 kick-off in Sandy Ground Saint-Martin.

So all those who can go along to support please do!
