Restaurant Suggestions. Martin Durand (email: [email protected])
writes:
I just (well, 3 weeks ago, sigh) came back from my first visit to Anguilla.
Stayed at Roy's (can't beat the price for no-nonsense accomodations).
Dived with Michel, Andrew and Twinny from Shoal Bay Scuba.
Roasted on Crocus, Shoal, Junk hole and Captain bays.
I'll be back !!!
A suggestion for your menus.ai page : Fujau's
It's located behind ScotiaBank.
You don't go for the decor but the food is great, the prices are (tourist-wise) ridiculous with ribs or meat curry at 15 to 20 $EC (EC !) fish at 15 $EC and conq at 20 to 25 $EC.
You can get all items to take-out.
The kind of place that is ideal for lunch.
I forget the name [ed: Rey Kel's I suspect], but there's also a "local" eatery on Queen Elisabeth avenue, right after the Stoney Ground elementary school. One menu a day, posted of a blackboard outside the place early in the morning. Prices are around 15 $EC and the menu is quite varied (I saw and tried the ox-tail stew and a fish curry, with rice-and-peas and cole slaw, that rivaled the same at a "tourist" place for the same price in $US.
Lastly, the Sunday roast beef lunch at Roy's must be acknowledged. Aside from the afore-mentionned ox-tail stew and an order of ribs ot Fujau's, Roy's Sunday roastbeef was the only meat I ate while on Anguilla... served with homemade gravy and fresh (as much as I could tell) horseradish, along with mashed potatoes, peas, carrots and the obligatory Yorkshire pudding. It ruined 2 Sunday afternoon dives but it was worth it !-)
That's about it... all the promised features of Anguilla where present... friendly people, quiet, relaxed, great diving (scuba and snorkel)... next time I'll bring my bike too !

Good Friday.
Today is the start of the Easter Weekend (both Friday and
Monday are holidays for many people).
On Good Friday in Anguilla, it is traditional to prepare "bloodless"
meals. A common dish is Salt Fish, pictured here to the right.
Happy Easter. Don't forget their may be boat races on Monday, even Sunday.

Apple Theatre Group Needs Sponsors.
Eleanor Stacey (email: [email protected]) writes with bad news about this summer's Apple
Theatre program in Anguilla. Her past sponsor may not be able to fund the Summer 2000 production (script rental, sets, air fare, accomodations, food,
car rental, etc). If you have a villa that is empty June 24-August 6, or a car sitting idle, or 40,000 spare AA frequent flyer points,
or some available cash, contact Eleanor about becoming a sponsor. Here is her story:
A lot of you who visit this website are also returning visitors to Anguilla. While you are certainly aware of the lovely beaches, fantastic restaurants, and warm island hospitality, you may not yet have heard of one of Anguillas newest cultural additions; the Apple Theatre Company. Apple is an acronym for Anguillian People Performing Live Entertainment. The group consists of approximately 50 members, all students or recent graduates of Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School.
I began formation of this theatre group in 1998 when I was given the opportunity to go to Anguilla to develop theatre on the island. The group has done two musicals during summer sessions since 1998; Anne of Green Gables and then Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Students have learned a variety of skills, ranging from singing technique to stage management, and have praised the program (which takes place in July each year) for giving them something constructive to do during the holidays.
Given the success of the last two summers, a third summer production. Children of Eden has been planned for July 2000. I have been so fortunate as to enlist, as volunteers, a professional director and professional choreographer for the production. Unfortunately, a great obstacle has recently been set in the way; OCOD, the organization that has been funding my personal costs, has not received funding from the Canadian government this year, and therefore, can not fund me. So now, rather than simply fundraising for production costs, I am seeking sponsorship for the entire cost of the program which is $10,940 US.
If you are interested in helping to make this program happen, or in simply getting some more information on the Apple Theatre Company, OCOD, the past projects in Anguilla or the proposed summer 2000 program, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. Also, if you would like to help support OCOD, please let me know as well, and I will gladly provide you with details on what you can do to make a difference.
Thank you all so much for your consideration.

Eat Local - Enjoy the Best of Anguilla.
Dave Thomas (email: [email protected]) writes:
While there are many wonderful restaurants in Anguilla, make sure you
take time to visit one of the local places. Some of our favorites
include Raffes, Circle Inn, Little Mermaid, and Big Jims. Tasty's, a popular new
breakfast and lunch spot also offers wonderful local dishes at lunch
time.
When your in the Valley stop at Pepper Pot, Schalacks, Billys or drop by
the airport. Don't pass Rani and Joes without getting ice latte;
milkshake or other home made ice cream treat to take home.
Don't be shy when you smell good things as you pass a local BBQ, stop
your business will be welcome.
