Sherry's Pictures of Anguilla

Sherry writes: "Here are a few photos of Anguilla that I took in Feb 2004. It's nice to see different perspectives of this quiet, gentle island that we have come to love. Our daughter was married in Anguilla on Feb. 14. We stayed for a week at Shirmel's Ville next door to a wonderful family who rented us the villa. I've kept in contact with the Richardsons for a couple of years now."

There was a tie for the winner and Lynne Bernbaum, well known artist who has lived in Anguilla for many years, was one of the winners. Anguilla Beaches:
Over 30 Anguilla beaches.

London Times on Anguilla

Bob Bermann writes that the Dec 4/5 issue had a long article on Anguilla. Here is an excerpt:

Anguilla must have been a serious disappointment to its first European visitors. Forty minutes north of Antigua, at the northern end of the Leeward Islands, it is low-lying and barren, with no natural resources but salt. Its plantation owners threw in the towel long ago, leaving to their slaves their land, their names and 33 powder-soft beaches lapped by waters the colour of blue curaao. Bet theyre kicking themselves now.

Anguilla is just 16 miles wide by three across (Columbus named it the Eel), and tourism arrived late here. Consequently, the island is joyful and crime-free, and radiates unspoilt innocence. Tourists are still seen as visitors, and happy adventures are born of chance meetings with locals. It has no designer shopping malls and just a couple of nightclubs. The one-horse capital, The Valley, makes Bridgetown, on Barbados, seem positively Florentine but then if you wanted culture, youd go to Florence.

Sparingly developed, hard to reach and pricey, this offshore haven promises to repay your investment handsomely, and heres the secret of a success-ful stay: find the beach that suits your soul, the accommo-dation that suits your pocket, and stay put.

Bob the bait fisherman, sprawled in the shade on Shoal Bay West, on the off chance that pilchards would pass by, put it best. Sometimes, he yawned, its nice to have nothing to do but look at the ocean.

Real Estate for sale on Anguilla

Newspaper Article About Anguilla

The Washington Times has a long travel article entitled "A Lovely Little Island" about going to Anguilla: Anguilla's delights are that rare commodity that is measured inversely. Three traffic lights at last count, no fast-food restaurant, no long stretch of beaches gobbled up by sprawling resorts, no Gucci, no Applebee's. Anguilla is the antithesis of St. Martin, a few miles across the channel.

Thanks to Steve and Dan and Jane for sending this tip.
