Shoal Bay Anguilla is a beautiful and romantic location for a wedding. . . . | |
2004/02/01 - Click to enlarge pictures |
The wedding took place on the beach at Upper Shoal Bay and on the grounds of Bellamare Villas, where the honeymoon also took place in the Mimosa Villa. The ceremony was beautifully performed by Rev. Lindsey Richardson of the Methodist Church. Flowers came from Purple Rose Florist.
The wedding pictures above were taken by Chris Mason, photograher and web designer (click here for more pictures of the wedding by Chris; email: masonc@masonc.com).
Here are a few candid photos of the bride, taken by Mary Ann Green:
How to Get Married:
Visiting couples must apply for their wedding license 48 hours before the wedding (fee is US$284 stamp duty unless you reside in Anguilla for 15 days before the wedding). Documents required include proof of citizenship such as passport or driver's license and birth certificate, and proof of divorces if any. You should arrive in Anguilla several days before the wedding to arrange the paperwork. Tourist Dept Wedding Page.
There are several wedding planners in Anguilla, such as Weddings on the Go, The Sunshine Lady, Weddings in Paradise, and Anguilla Wedding.
Or you can handle the arrangements by yourself. You apply for the license at the Court Registry the Courthouse (email: [email protected]. Tel: 264-497-2377. Fax: 264-497-5420). Directions: starting in the airport parking lot, take the only exit and turn left, then left again and go past the airport entrance. At the roundabout turn right and go past the Catholic church and the Old Cotton Gin Ice Cream parlor on the left, then turn right into the government complex. Take this road all the way to the end - you should see the Courthouse (pictured below).
You need stamps for the license application, which you get at the Post Office, which is located on the corner where you turned into the government complex (see picture below).
You also need two witnesses, which should be easy to arrange through your accomodations.
You can get married at the Courthouse, but several ministers
on Anguilla would be pleased to marry you:
Rev. Lindsey Richardson, Methodist. Tel. 264-497-3059
Pastor Cecil Richardson, Baptist. Tel. 264-497-2967
Father Ed Herberger, Catholic. Tel. 264-497-2405
Email: [email protected]
(required for Catholic wedding: Confirmation papers; Baptismal certificate; Freedom to Marry papers; Pre Cana course; 3-6 months advance notice)

Fledgling Baseball League Needs HelpGeorge Carty is spearheading an effort to to start a 'Pony League Baseball Club'. PONY stands for; Protecting Our Nations Youth! In North America we would say "Little League baseball " For ages 8 - 14. They have received donations of a certain number of baseballs, but still need bats and gloves (for hardball, not softball). Anyone who is willing to donate used baseball equipment to help to establish this little league, should contact George (see below). If you want to mail used items, that would be fine. If there is any duty owing, they can pay it, but many used items enter Anguilla duty free.
The goal of the league is to give young people more purposeful activities to choose from. Financial resources are minimal, and the kids they are hoping to attract into this game have even less. So, if you love Anguilla and live in a country that has baseball teams, look into your hearts and see if you have a bat or a glove to spare. (If you bring any gloves with you in your suitcase, you can drop them off at Margaret Ouwehand's Alternative Wellness Cliniic in The Forest - 264.497.5798 ) Thanks.

USA Today: Where the Elite RetreatAnguilla featured on the front page: Uncle Ernie's barbecue joint on lively Shoal Bay East also is popular. Cyril Fitzsimons, 60, a platinum-maned Irishman who runs an eatery in Long Island's star-magnet Hamptons and Zara's restaurant on Anguilla, is a regular on Ernie's corner bar stool, smoking a Marlboro between calls to check on business in the States.
"I fell in love with Anguilla," Fitzsimons says, gesturing toward the 2-mile beach that some consider the best in the Caribbean. "The Hamptons is so crowded and crazy. Here, it's so low-key. Here is the real Caribbean."

Little Bay from the Road
Yesterday we went out for a drive and stopped at the top of the cliff above Little Bay (click the link above for directions).
There were a lot of people on the beach and the day was perfect for pictures. One of our group climbed down the rope to the beach, said hello to some Italian tourists that we had met previously, and scampered back up the rope.
Another woman whom I snapped on the way up the rope said that it is much easier coming up than going down.Of course, it is still recommended, for safety, that you go to Crocus Bay and take a boat over to Little Bay.
Here is a shot of Calvin's boat coming in from Crocus Bay to pick up tourists who had been left at Little Bay earlier in the day:
