Aren't we all looking for the fastest and least expensive way to get to Anguilla? This can be tricky and time-consuming, what with changing planes in San Juan or taking the ferry from St. Martin. So here is the place where we travelers can post our latest tips and discount fares.

Remember that the Anguilla airport code is AXA and the American Airlines toll-free reservations number while in Anguilla is 497-3131. The American Eagle number at Wallblake Airport is 264-497-3503, which is not in the latest telephone book. St. Martin airport is SXM, serviced by AA, KLM, Air France, US Air, Liat, Air Transat,...

If someone is looking for good airfares to Anguilla from the West Coast I would suggest they contact Molly at (800)777-0907. She is a Caribbean specialist, with her favorite island being Anguilla. Last time I checked her rate was about $650 per person.

From Boston to St. Martin & then by small plane, use TNT charter leaving early each Sunday morning and returning the following week; alternatively, use GVU charter and ferry over from St. Martin. Both TNT& GVW use same plane but TNT has better land service including agents in Anguilla and St. Martin who organize every aspect of the transportation for you. TNT's fare is about $100 more than GVW and you get the flight to Anguilla and better service. For details, call Holly @ Garber Travel in Boston - 617 439-6773. Also, TNT & GVW have hotel packages that can be quite attractive - they use Sonesta, CocoLoba & Cinnamon Reef. You can get Delta or USAIRWAYS or Continental or PanAM shuttles from NYC cheap with advance purchase to allow you to take advantage of the charter. Or, look into a charter to St. Martin from your location and hop over.

I have found that it is cheaper to use a Travel Agent as opposed to American Airlines. If in doubt do comparative ticket shopping.

Just booked Feb/Mar '98 flights to Anguilla yesterday. Just about everything is sold out with all carriers for those dates. And...my travel agent cautioned against depending upon the Sun Country Charter. They do not currently have a contract, and are proposing a work stopage in the February time frame. If anyone wants to risk it, the charter is $634 to St Maarten. By the way, the ONLY other available option was American at $885...we took it! In addition to the fares being up a bit this season, the availablility seems to have diminished. I was told the cruise lines have blocked even more seats than usual this season. So, BOOK NOW !!! Enjoy

Melody Dill challenged me to find "Sun World" charter that flies to St Maarten from the midwest. Using a web site called AIR (http://airlines-online.com/contents.shtml), I found Sun Country Airlines in Minneapolis. They have flights to St Maarten starting at $399. 800-752-1218. http://www.suncountry.com/mspsxm.htm is the web site, but it only has fares, not departure days and times.

For travellers from the UK to Anguilla here are some hot tips. Try 1) Caledonian Airways (booked through Golden Lion Holidays in UK (01293 567800). Gatwick-St.Kitts return cost between 230-375 (depending on season). Air Anguilla Charter St.Kitts-Anguilla (6 seater plus luggage) cost $800 return ($400 one way for charter if you guarantee to take the return whenever). 2) Nouvelles Frontieres or AOM Minerva from Paris to St. Maarten. Cost approx 275 or Club class (Grande Large/Comfort) a bargain at approx 375 and as good as any major airline Club seat. Then ferry from St.Martin to Anguilla or for absolute indulgence to arrive in style charter GOTCHA (Garfield Richardson in Anguilla 2956). Have tried and tested all the above an they are much better and cheaper than BA to Antigua or via the US for travel from UK/Europe. Hope this is of help.

Go to the American Airlines site and you see that they are having a fall seat sale to the Caribbean. NY to Grenada for $181. Code is KXFALL3. But I couldn't find any sale prices to Anguilla or St. Martin. Did I miss them? Sale is over Nov 14th.

BWIA ran an ad in the paper yesterday for "fall seat sale". St Martin to Barbados or Trinidad, $149, Guyana $199. Jamaica $180.

American has really increased airline prices. We bought our tickets last year on 8/21 to travel 12/18/96-1/7/97 and paid $498 for each adult; this year for the same dates we are paying $695, and we bought them on Sept. 21, just a month later. When we plunked down our money on 10/4, they were virtually sold out for the week before and week after Christmas (actually until 1/7). So, American will have a good Christmas.

We are back to Anguilla for our 7th year in late February. Needed to know if American Eagle will add another Saturday flight during the season. We have been calling American Airlines with no news. Need to get college daughter and friend to join us for the trip. Finally got the answer from American Eagle at Wallblake Airport: they will add another Saturday flight on November 8th. It arrives Anguilla at 7:27, leaves at 7:37PM.

Apparently, Tower Air has decided not to fly to St. Martin this year after all.

The St Marteen newspaper reports that Tower Air will begin scheduled flights to their island from New York as of November 28th, 1997. This could be a new inexpensive way to get to Anguilla.
Anguilla Local News, August 1997.

Sun World International is reportedly planning to fly charters from the midwest to St. Maarten in the 97-98 winter season. If they offer "air-only" deals, this will be a way to get to Anguilla.
Anguilla Local News. August 1997

When pricing out tickets, always get a separate price for each leg. Many times, it's the same, but on 2-3 occassions, I've saved as much as $150. Right now in June you can save money as long as you're booking from an airport that services San Juan with both USAir and American. (competition makes a big difference!) Both USAir and American have reduced there fares - if you know how to get them. Example: Baltimore (BWI) to Anguilla (AXA) on AA is currently $653 round trip. But, if you book round-trip Baltimore to San Juan (SJU), M-Th fare is $287 (F-SU $318), then round-trip SJU to AXA, at $209 (F-Su $213), you get the same flights for $500 + tax. If you book BWI to SJU, then SJU to St. Martin (SXM), the fare comes down to $287 BWI-SJU and $187 SJU-SXM, for a total of $474 + tax (F-Su $515 + tax). Remember, ask for separate fares for each segment of your trip - not a round trip fare - and ask both USAir and AA to use "K" fares to get the price - and be flexible in your travel times. And if you fly to St. Martin, you can get the Link ferry to pick you up right at Juliana Airport and take you direct to Anguilla.
