St Barts Renovation:
Anguilla Construction:
 |

This is the web site for the three villas that I built on Anguilla and the villa that I am
renovating in St Barts (see Azu Villa Renovation Page), plus
tropical construction tips and resources as well. These construction projects started in 1997, although
land acquisition and architectural planning started in 1995. Every stage of the construction is recorded here.

We rent the villa in St Barts and the guest cottage in Anguilla (La Vanda)
and the villa at the top of the Anguilla property (Mimosa), but we
keep the beachfront house and pool for our own use. And we
have created a name and web page for the overall completed property:
Bellamare

For details on the main Anguilla beachfront house, visit the Residence Construction Page.

For the technology center,
visit the "Clubhouse" Construction Page.

And finally, for the guest cottage, our first attempt at construction on Anguilla,
visit the La Vanda Construction Page.

Check out this business in South Hill:

Operated by Peterson Connor, they rent scaffolding, steel jacks, concrete mixer,
generators, jack hammers, etc. We stopped in one day and bought a 6' iron bar
that is ideal for manhandling rocks. The supply of fasteners was impressive too.

On the main road in South Hill, west of the turn off for Blowing Point.

Dear Maryann,
We are getting ready to put our project out for bid, just met with several builders in Grenada.
Thanks for all of your insight and sharing your project.

Most people here use Hunter 'Original ' as it is cast iron heavy and holds up well.
www.hunterfan.com -
Hunter started making a new stainless steel one for coastal use. These are common fans sold almost everywhere.
Home Depot just started stocking a new fan that is aerodynamically superior to all other fans, check it out at your local Home Depot store. I don't remember the brand name.

When you buy fans the factor to keep in mind besides rust is the pitch of the blades.
Hunter is 17 to 19 degrees pitch. You look at some of the cheap metal outdoor fans and the blades are almost flat. They are cheap, quiet and don't rust, but they don't move any air. Put your had up and feel the air movement. Go to a good fan store and feel the fans - there is a real difference.

Casablanca fans have a 23 degree pitch on some of their fans and a life time warranty. You pay for it but you save in shipping and installation. www.casablancafanco.com

One of my favorite for looks in the tropics is Fanimation palm leaf fans:
www.fanimation.com/fanimation/dampfans.html

They have some for damp locations. Don't know how they will hold up in the tropics, but I've been told that they are in use use here.

All the Best

          About Ceiling Fans.

I have been reading and rereading your reports from the beginning. They have been so helpful We bought land a year ago in Grenada and will start to build this January. I have lots of questions, and would love to visit sometime. Right now I would like to know what kind of ceiling fans you use so they don't rust. The place we stay in Grenada has ceiling fans in the rooms, and they are always rusted after a few years, do you have any suggestions?
