Dade County Building Code. In the tropics, you always need to worry about hurricanes. Here is the web site for the Dade County Florida building code compliance deparment: http://www.buildingcodeonline.com/ Their site is huge and includes lists of hurricane approved products in many categories.
Here is a US Government survey of South American hardwoods, listing the scientific name for each wood, plus all the local names and what it is useful for. Once you have it loaded (450K), you can use your browser's Find function to search for wood by name. If you find it useful, you can save it on your hard drive using the File-SaveAs function, then Open and Bookmark it locally.
