You can now savour tasty Jamaican cuisine in Anguilla. Totally Grilled & Hot Plate started out with a barbecue grill last December and a couple months after they expanded into a full restaurant.
Young Chef Oliver Bailey hails from Jamaica where he's been cooking from the age of 10 years old. He then had varied culinary experience working the hotels and restaurants in Jamaica before relocating to Anguilla. His goal is to make Totally Grilled & Hot Plate one of the most talked about dining spots in the Caribbean.
The menu features lots of jerk from the grill (very spicy!) ... including pork, fish, shrimp and chicken. Chef Oliver also features fried fish, popcorn chicken, curried goat, ackie and saltfish, pizzas, salads and meat loaf. Side orders of rice and peas, salad and grilled veggies complete the dish. Oliver also makes one of my favourites - "festival" - which is a mildly sweet, fried food made of cornmeal flour, similar to the johnny cake.
Chef Oliver also experiments with different dishes including Chinese cuisine, Italian dishes and what he calls Executive Dishes. Prices are very reasonable.
Totally Grilled & Hot Plate also hosts parties on their premises and also caters out. On the last Saturday of each month they feature a Happy Hour from 7pm - 8pm where they offer a complimentary buffet! Opening hours are flexible depending on demand but usual business hours are as follows: Monday - Friday 11am - 12 midnight, Saturday 12 noon to 11pm and Sunday 1pm - 9pm. Tel. 264-497-7305. Email Oliver at [email protected]
Directions: located in The Valley across the street from Video Dynasty. Starting from the airport parking lot, take the only exit and turn left, continue straight past Island Car Rentals and National Bank of Anguilla. You will see Totally Grilled on the left before you get to the light at Alberts Supermarket.
