Irad's Gourmet Dining

Irad, experienced Anguillian Chef and Culinary Expert has created a very interesting and versatile gourmet dining enterprise on the island. He offers catering services for parties and small groups, Private Chef Services for villas and homes and lunch and dinner deliveries. Lunch and dinner can be three course, degustation, buffet or whatever style the customer desires.

Irad has added an innovative twist to his service and also offers gourmet seafood deliveries such as fish and lobster (raw, pre-cooked or cooked). Irad would set up dinner for guests in a special locationwhether it be on their favourite beach or any other spot. Irad has created a special Cultural Dining Experience where his diners can be treated to the local dish of their choice in a traditional Anguillian home. Irad works alongside (usually) the Lady of the House to create an authentic Anguillian dinner.

Caribbean Cable Communications High Speed Internet Access Island-Wide

Caribbean Cable Communications has now added high speed internet service to their cable television service offering. The internet signals come over the same cable network. After a year and a half of line upgrades, testing of the service started in November 2003 and by January 2004 the company offered the service commercially. With several hundred customers signed up, virtually the entire island now has internet coverage. Some customers even report improved quality of cable television reception.

The beauty of this service is its consistency of quality, its value for money and 24-hour technical support. The diagnostic team can actually monitor an individual customers service connection from a remote location and walk the customer through any queries. Another highlight of this service which can work well for persons who spend only part of the year on the island is that, by a simple email request you can have your internet connection disconnected and then reconnected when you need service again at no disconnection or reconnection fees. This also means that you wont have to pay for internet access for the months when the service is not being used.

Beach Cleanup

Johnno's Beach Stop, in collaboration with the National Trust, Leroy Martinez and a number of community groups and other Non Governmental Organizations will be cleaning up Anguilla's beaches over the next few months. The goal is to clean one beach a week, which will also provide much needed funding assistance to the community groups that are participating.

The group could use some assistance with the pick up of the collected garbage to be transported to the Corito dump. If you have a truck and driver(s) that you would be willing to donate towards the cause, please contact Leroy Martinez to arrange for pick up on one of the following dates:

July 31 Sandy Ground. August 7 Meads Bay. August 14 Cove Bay. August 21 Rendezvous Bay. August 28 Savannah Bay. Sept. 4 Blowing Point. Sept. 11 Corito Bay. Sept. 18 Long Pond Bay. Sept. 25 Sandy Hill Bay. Oct. 2 Island Harbour. Oct. 9 Crocus Bay. Oct. 16 Mimi Bay. Oct. 23 Limestone Bay. Oct. 30 Katouche Bay. Nov. 6 Captain's Bay. Nov. 13 Long Bay. Nov. 20 Barnes Bay. Nov. 27 Sile Bay. Dec. 4 Windward Point. Dec. 11 Shoal Bay West. Dec. 18 Little Harbour.

Please note that the campaign kicked off last weekend with dozens of people cleaning Shoal Bay East and the surrounding area. Cap Juluca kindly donated a truck and drivers to pick up the garbage. Please get involved and assist this very worthwhile program. To help, contact Leroy Martinez 497-4293, Johnno's Beach Stop 497-2728, or National Trust 497-5297.

Greenheart and Purpleheart in Anguilla

South American lumber comes to Anguilla. The newest company in Anguilla is South American Lumber, owned by Collis and Jeannine Connor-Gittens, specializing in exotic hardwoods such as Wallaba, Greenheart, Cedar and Purpleheart.

Having resided in Anguilla for over 10 years, Collis Tiger Gittens worked as a skilled carpenter with several prominent builders. During this time, he saw the demand for durable hardwood in the Anguillian climate. Experienced in working with Purpleheart and Greenheart wood, he began importing lumber for individual builders and homeowners. However, his dream was to open a complete lumberyard in Anguilla, exclusively providing tropical hardwoods.

Jeannine Connor-Gittens, former Guest Services Assistant Manager at Cap Juluca and inaugural Manager of Altamer Resort, has learned the lumber business first-hand. After being intrigued by myriad wooden structures she saw in the Cayman Islands, Mexico, Guyana and her native Virgin Islands, she has worked tirelessly to assist her husband in making his dream a reality. Fluent in Spanish, she will be the Manager and primary contact of the company.

General uses of South American hardwoods include flooring, paneling, roofing, shutters, cabinetry, transmission posts, boat and shipbuilding, marine construction (above/below water) and high-grade furniture.

Returning to Anguilla after a 3-year hiatus, the couple will initially take custom orders, while the lumberyard opening date is slated for January 2005. Their Anguilla office will be operational this August, with local contact numbers to be publicized at that time.

Currently, you can send email to [email protected] or fax to 340-719-5628.

New Security at Blowing Point

Allow a little extra time when taking the ferry to St Martin. The Anguilla terminal has installed some new security, including barriers, random scanning, boarding cards, careful matching of the manifest, etc. There has also meen some additional tightening on the French side and we can probably expect more once the new terminal building is finished in Marigot.
