Visitor Feedback on Banana Wind Villa

I noticed that there are some interesting visitor comments about the Banana Wind villa on the Carib Online forum this week:

"My husband and I and two other couples stayed at Bannana Wind for 6 nights in February. The villa is new and extrememly spacious. Very sleek modern kitchen. Full dining room, living room all with open views to the garden, then overlooking the sea and St. Martin. Outside dining next to pool or overlooking the garden facing the water. Master bedroom and bath, over look pool, garden, ocean, etc . Master had large tub and walk in shower all with a view of St. Martin."

"We had the second master bedroom with walk in shower, views of water & St. Martin when lieing in bed. Plenty of space throughout. Third bedroom is rather small compared to others and over looks landscape in front entrance of house. The property is on a small beach that can be reached by a set of stairs. The owners also leave beach chairs down under the stairs to use. The small beach is a little rocky but you can certainly get wet. There is also a small reef/island right off the beach that looks a pile of coral all dried up. When we were there the seas were calm, so snorkling is good. No detail is overlooked in this home, spacious yet cosy. We loved it, and it's right off the new road."

"P.S. Not bragging but, we love Anguilla so much we have been there 15 times. We have stayed in a variety of accommodations, and this was the best." (forum link)

And this further comment from another visitor:

"... have stayed at Banana Wind on several occasions. It is a beautiful place. Wonderfully decorated and landscaped. Access to a small beach. Many nice amenities. The new road has made it even more accessible."

Francis Eck at K Gallery

Francis Eck, the famous French contemporary abstract painter is visiting Anguilla and has four very interesting paintings exhibited at K-Gallery in South Hill Plaza (Tel: 264.497.8941. Located between the turn offs for Blowing Point and for Anguilla Great House in South Hill. )

Eck (1949), is Enghien gold medal and Grand Prix Rubens winner, and his paintings are shown in museums all over the world including Tokyo and Beijing as well as in many private American and European collections including Jacques Chirac's, the French President.

K-Gallery's manager, Loredana Speranza, has proudly announced a major and exclusive exhibition for next Autumn 2004, where the Alsatian artist will bring many more of his masterpieces.

Eck's style - bright, simple and clear - is pretty unique and quite impressive. He saturates spaces on his canvas with luminous, intense colours that mesmerise the beholder. The pivotal role of the main objects in his paintings seems like fading away, thanks to the strong turmoil of colours, and it becomes as part of the wholeness of the artwork, thus evoking depth, purity and harmony.

Eddie Martinez, missing

Missing Boater from St. Croix

Naomi Martinez of St Croix writes: "On March 19, 2004 my brother Edwardo "Eddie" Martinez left St Croix on a 25-foot boat with his friend Hans "Pops" Larsen. About 25 miles west of St Maarten they had engine trouble, which eventually led to the boat sinking. Hans was found the next day evening 35 miles southwest of Virgin Gorda, still handing on to a boat fender. He last saw my brother hanging on to a raft made with the boat cushion and a boat fender. My family and I still have hope for my brother. Eddie is 21 years old, 6'1" in height, light complexion and has a liver spot birthmark on his left calf."

Update on Late Night Ferry Service.

A delegation from Anguilla met with French (St. Martin) Government officials last week to discuss the continuation of the Night Ferry Service. Although the numbers are currently low and French Officials expressed concern over the viability of the service, Anguilla Officials indicated that the initial trial period was too short to gauge the true response to the service and also impressed the need for the Night Ferry Service once American Eagle flights are suspended in Anguilla from September to December. St. Martin Officials agreed to extend the trial period until mid July 2004 (when it be reviewed once again) and also indicated that they would allow service during the suspension of American Eagle flights, at which time they will consider accommodating a later ferry as well. [Thanks to AHTA for the news.]

Anguilla vs Tortola, 2004 Young tennis players compete against Tortola Club

Last weekend there were 23 persons from Tortola, including parents and supporters, in Anguilla for a round robin junior tennis tournament. They were accompanied by coach Juan de Rosa from the Tortola Sports Club.

Mitchelle Lake, President of the Anguilla Tennis Academy (ATA), said that the round robin tournament that was held on the courts at Temenos proved to be a fun time as well as good experience in tennis for all the players. There were twelve children participating in the 11-13 age group with seven game sets on Saturday and Sunday. Some of the younger players learnt to be ball boys and enjoyed the experience. This under ten years group were also able to have some matches on Saturday.

Juan de Rosa was full of praise for the ATA and all that it is doing. He said it was a great opportunity for the children from his club to have matches in Anguilla and he hopes there will be a return visit in June for children from Anguilla to go to Tortola. The group stayed at the Anguilla Great House where de Rosa said they were very well looked after and provided with a bus to travel to Temenos. "It is a great experience to play with different children and Anguilla's players have a good standard," he commented.

According to Mitch Lake the standard of play has improved tremendously in the past few months, since the ATA started regular coaching sessions. He commended Juan for developing the tennis programme in Tortola and hopes that Anguilla will be able to help them by providing tennis equipment and coaching experts. He said that an exchange programme with several islands in the region will benefit everyone and when the tennis facility is completed exchanges like this will happen often. He thanked the management and staff of Temenos for the use of their courts and the Great House for accommodating the visitors from Tortola and also providing transportation for them.

Thanks to Brenda Carty for the photos and story.
