May 30 is a day of reflection among all Anguillians as they celebrate the Anguilla Revolution, an event which culminated in Anguilla breaking ties with St.Kitts-Nevis to pursue a path of self determination. The day is full of activities, including a boat race (see below) and a parade and assembly. This year there was even a regatta of visiting yachts.

New Offices for the Anguilla Tourist Board

The Anguilla Tourist Board proudly opened the doors to their very own new offices in February 2003. After six months of construction, the building built originally in 1947 for use by the Agricultural Department was expanded and transformed into a very tasteful two storey pastel-coloured building. The use of the soft exterior colours of peach and blue was inspired by the colours of the Anguilla flag. Locals and visitors can now enjoy comfortable offices and surrounding grounds as they browse through literature about the island. The new offices were officially opened on April 30, 2003. The Anguilla Tourist Board would like to acknowledge the kind contributions and support from the Government and members of the public and private sector in terms of dcor, furniture, plants and other donations. (The Hotel Association also has an office in this new building!)

Crusoes on Sandy Island

The offshore cay of Sandy Island just a few minutes boat ride away from the pier at Sandy Ground comes alive on Saturdays with live music by King Gossip and the Boys at Sundown Explosion. King Gossip is a past Calypso King and is always a strong contender in the Calypso Monarch Competition held each annual carnival.

Crusoes Bar and Restaurant is open daily from 10:30am 4:00pm (or up to 5:30pm if the party is swinging). Enjoy the local flavour of calypso and reggae as you have lunch and relax on the beach on this charming little isle. You can also snorkel, fish and walk along the beach to the quiet tip of the cay.

Sandy Island is up and running again after the challenging knocks of Hurricane Luis and Hurricane Lenny. Restaurant Operator Doris Brooks has put her heart and soul into bringing the natural beauty of the island by spearheading the campaign earlier this year Plant a TreeBoat Trip Free. Doris who has lived here for the past twelve years is originally from Germany, married to an Anguillian and has two daughters.

For more great pictures of Sandy Island, see this news item from ealier.
